Registering Optional Map Data Category Providers

By default, third party map data category provider options are not configured in Archer. To use this functionality, you must purchase all necessary API licenses from each third party provider and enable them in the Archer Control Panel.

Archer supports the following providers:

Enable OpenWeather in Archer

OpenWeather is a third party data provider that collects global weather data. Enabling this provider in Archer allows users to display temperature and precipitation data on their Mapbox reports in Archer. (See the OpenWeather documentation for information on using OpenWeather.)

  1. Open the Archer Control Panel. From the Instance Management list, select the instance.

  2. On the General tab, go to the Mapbox and Overlay Data Layer Configuration section.

  3. In the OpenWeather Access Token field, enter the key for the license obtained from OpenWeather.

  4. Click Test Connection to test the API connection.

  5. Click Save.

Enable USGS Earthquake Catalog in Archer

United States Geological Survey (USGS) is a third party data provider that collects earthquake event data from research facilities around the world. Enabling this provider in Archer allows users to display near-real-time earthquake events on their Mapbox reports in Archer. (See the USGS Earthquake Catalog documentation for information on using USGS Earthquake Catalog.)

  1. Open the Archer Control Panel. From the Instance Management list, select the instance.

  2. On the General tab, go to the Mapbox and Overlay Data Layer Configuration section.

  3. In the USGA Earthquakes field, select the option Enable USGS Earthquakes.

  4. Click Save.

USGS Earthquake data in Archer

USGS Earthquake data supports the ability to render event timeframe and magnitude on the map in Archer.

Earthquake event pins are displayed as different colored and sized circles on the map. The color of the pin represents how recently the event occurred:

  • Red. Event occurred within the last 1 hour.

  • Yellow. Event occurred within the last 7 days, but more than 1 hour ago.

  • White. Event occurred more than 7 days ago.

The size of an earthquake event is based on the reported magnitude.

Select a pin to display additional data about the event. Users can also interact with each event pin by selecting it on the map. This will provide users with additional information related to the selected event. Here is a list of some of the available data; for a complete list of the collected data points see the USGS Earthquake Catalog documention.

  • Date. Date and time in UTC time zone that the earthquake occurred. (USGS refers to this as Time.)

  • Location. Coordinates of the geographic location of the earthquake. (USGS refers to this as Latitude and Longitude.)

  • Magnitude. Size and severity of the earthquake. Archer filters events displayed on the map by magnitude, displaying events reported between 4.0 and 10.0. (USGS refers to this data as Status.)

  • Primary. 2-letter ID of the primary contributor of data for the earthquake event. (USGS refers to this data as Net.)
