Applications

The following table describes the use case applications and questionnaires.

Application

Description

ESG Management System

Serves as an umbrella for all of your ESG activities, such as data gathering programs and disclosures.

ESG Data Gathering Program

Functions as a central hub for creating and viewing all ESG data gathering activities, such as single materiality assessments, metrics, and metric results.

Company/
Division/
Business Unit/
Facilities

Represent 4 levels of organizational hierarchy, with Company at the top and Facilities the most granular. ESG metric data can be collected at each level of the hierarchy.

Contacts

Allows you to document information about any users that will be involved in the materiality assessment and metric gathering process, such as internal and external stakeholders, leadership members, and metric providers.

Materiality Assessment Campaign

Allows you to collect stakeholders' and leadership views on the material topics. This application also enables you to capture the organization's overall view of the material topics as well as an overall view for each region and country.

Note: If you're using ESRS, see the documentation for Archer Double Materiality Calculator.

Material Topic Responses

Captures the feedback received from a materiality assessment campaign. This application is populated by a data feed, with one record created for each topic answered by the stakeholder or leadership member.

Management of Material Topics

Allows you to document your management approach for your material topics and link them to disclosure topics where applicable.

Material Topic Repository

Aggregates all of the individual responses for each material topic and provides a weighted average. This application is automatically populated by a data feed and used to generate a heat map of topic responses, that can be viewed in the Data Gathering Program > Monitor Performance tab > Materiality Topics for Management tab.

Materiality Topic Identification Questionnaire

Allows stakeholders to identify the topics that matter most to them.

ESG Library

Contains the latest version of the following standards/frameworks metrics or recommended disclosures.

  • SASB

  • GRI

  • TCFD

  • ESRS

  • IFRS

Note: See the Release Notes for more information about which ESRS and IFRS standards are currently supported.

The metrics within these standards/frameworks become organization metrics once your organization decides which standard or standards, disclosures, and topics it is using.

ESG Organization Metrics

Identifies the metrics deemed most critical for the organization to track. They are created automatically from the ESG Library application.

ESG Metrics

ESG metrics are those that you will actually collect and report on, through periodic collection through the ESG Metric Results application.

Each ESG Metric represents a combination of organization metric and targeted organization level.

For example, say you have a "Total Energy Consumed" organization metric, you have selected to target all business units and you have 2 business units, the system will generate 2 ESG metrics:

  1. Program Code | Org Metric Name | Business Unit 1 Name

  2. Program Code | Org Metric Name | Business Unit 2 Name

Thresholds

Allows you to specify a target threshold value for each numeric or amount metric at the program, company, region, country, division, business unit, and facility level.

Note: Program-level threshold records are only generated if you have more than one active company and need to handle multiple hierarchies.

ESG Annual Metrics Aggregation

Allows you to see aggregated metric values for specific years.

ESG Metric Results

Contains the metrics sent out through Archer Engage and the values returned.

Sustainable Development Goals

Captures the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and ties them to your ESG Library records, allowing you to track metric performance against your SDGs.

Metric Provider Identification Survey

Allows you to ask chosen individuals to nominate an individual for a particular role and business unit combination. If that nominee is approved, they are added to the Contacts application and can be assigned metrics.

Personas and Access Roles

The following table describes the 2 main personas that the ESG use case was designed for.

Persona

Description

ESG Administrators

Users responsible for the set up and day to day management of the ESG solution. These tasks include replicating the organization structure within the solution, setting up the users, making the required metrics available to the organization for collection, and sending out ad-hoc materiality assessments.

ESG Executives

Executives with responsibility for ESG and sustainability. Their focus is the reports that can be created from the ESG solution. These users use information obtained from the materiality assessment to decide which standards are most appropriate for the organization to use for ESG reporting. They can then use the reports to see how well the organization is tracking against its metric threshold targets at the individual facility, business unit, division, country, region, and overall organization levels.

For a complete list of access roles and detailed, page-level access rights, see the Data Dictionary.

For a complete list of application record permission fields, including which user/groups fields populate the fields and where the fields inherit permissions from, see the Data Dictionary.

Dashboards

The following table describes the use case dashboards.

Dashboard

Description

Materiality - Decision Useful Overview

Provides an overview of your materiality topics by EES category, PPPP category, EES impact, country, and region.

Materiality - Decision Useful Details

Breaks down your materiality topics by influence (both stakeholder and leadership views and by different categories) and displays your organization's overall view.

Metrics - Decision Useful Overview

Allows you to view ESG objectives by performance status, view metrics by threshold status, and track metric performance against thresholds.

Metrics Thresholds - Decision Useful Overview

Displays metrics that have and have not met set thresholds, shows metrics by standards and topics and ESG categories and topics, and allows visibility into metrics without thresholds set.

Metrics - PMO Overview

Displays ESG metrics by provider roles, ESG category, standards, region, and country.

Administrator - Overview

Provides status information about metrics (such as past due metrics and metrics without an active respondent).

Data Feeds

The use case provides the following data feeds. For instructions on setting up the feeds, see Setting Up ESG Data Feeds.

The following table describes the use case data feeds.

Data Feed

Description

ESG - Material Topics DF1 - Generate Material Topic Identification Questionnaires

This Archer-to-Archer feed creates Material Topic Identification Questionnaires for participants identified in the campaign.

ESG - Material Topics DF2 - Material Topic Identification Questionnaire: Bulk Publish

This JavaScript feed publishes Material Topic Identification Questionnaires to Engage to so that respondents can select topics. For more information, see Using ESG Management with Engage.

ESG - Material Topics DF3 - Generate Material Topic Responses

This Archer-to-Archer feed generates Material Topic Responses records for each phase of the campaign (stakeholders, leadership, and overall response).

ESG - Material Topics DF4 - Material Topics: Bulk Publish

This JavaScript feed publishes the Material Topic Response records to Engage so that the respondents can provide topic influence details. For more information, see Using ESG Management with Engage.

ESG - Material Topics DF5 - Pull Material Topic List

This Archer-to-Archer feed generates Management of Material Topics records based on the material topics identified in a Materiality Assessment Campaign record.

ESG - Material Topics DF6 - Material Topic Repository

This Archer-to-Archer feed generates Material Topic Repository records.

ESG - Metrics Management DF1 - Generate ESG Org Metrics

This Archer-to-Archer feed starts the entire metric process. The "1-DFM: Create ESG Org Metrics from Library Records" report in the ESG Library combines any required metrics based on the selected standard/industry/sector along with any optional metrics that may have been selected by the ESG administrator.

ESG - Metrics Management DF2 - Generate ESG Metrics

This Archer-to-Archer feed is the second part of the metric generation process. After the ESG Administrator has configured the organization metric information, and defined business units and metric providers, this feed generates the ESG Metrics records.

There are also 4 additional feeds (ESG - Metrics Management DF2a - 2d), which are only used, as applicable, if you target a specific set of elements in your business hierarchy.
