Overview

Five data feeds are provided with this offering – one for each level in the Authoritative Sources application and an additional one for the Control Standards application. These are the most commonly updated content files and the only ones that require key field modification. These feeds allow you to easily bring new content into your Archer instance.

Archer must be configured for File Transporter feeds prior to running the Archer Authoritative Source Data Feed. Perform the necessary tests to confirm the required configuration before proceeding.

Considerations

This document is not intended to suggest optimum installations or configurations. It is assumed that the reader has both working knowledge of the product involved, and the ability to perform the tasks outlined in this section.

• Content Import Ordering: If content packages have Master Controls and Question Library data, they need to be imported through Data Import Wizard before running Authoritative Source Data feeds (1 -4).

• Scheduling Data Feeds: After setting up the data feeds, you can schedule them to run as needed per your organization’s requirements. For more information on Scheduling data feeds, see the Scheduling Data Feeds section.

Installing Archer Authoritative Source Data Feed Tool & Utility

For the data feeds to execute successfully, the server responsible for running the data feed must have the required access to the files. The Data Feed Manager can access files located on a network server that is accessible to the Data Feed Manager.

Installation overview

Complete the following tasks to install the offering.

Setting up Data Feeds

1. Create a folder named “Content” in network server, which is accessible to Data Feed Manager.

2. Under the “Content” folder, create five folders named “ControlStandards”, “AUSource”, “AUTopic”, “AUSection” and “AUSubsection”.

3. The content files must be in delimited text files (CSV) format.

4. Place the files in the appropriate paths.

5. Import the data feeds in the following order:

   1. 00_Control_Standards_Datafeed.dfx5

   2. 01_Authoritative_Sources_Source_Datafeed.dfx5

   3. 02_Authoritative_Sources_Topic_Datafeed.dfx5

   4. 03_Authoritative_Sources_Section_Datafeed.dfx5

   5. 04_Authoritative_Sources_SubSection_Datafeed.dfx5

Task 1: Import a data feed

1. Go to the Manage Data Feeds page.

   1. From the menu bar, click .

   2. Under Integration, click Data Feeds.

2. In the Manage Data Feeds section, click Import.

3. Locate and select the .dfx5 file for the data feed.

4. From the General tab in the General Information section, in the Status field, select Active.

5. Click on the Source Connection tab. Update the path field in the Transport Configuration section with the file location.

6. In the Post Processing section update the behavior of the source file in the Source File and Local Copy of Source File as per your organizations data retention policy.

7. Verify that key field values are not missing from the data feed setup window.

8. Click Save.

Task 2: Schedule a data feed

A data feed must be active and valid to successfully run. A successful data feed run processes all input data, completes all expected record updates, and does not report any failures in the Run Details Report.

Validating a data feed

The Data Feed Manager validates the information when a data feed is scheduled. If any information is invalid, the data feed displays an error message. You can save the data feed and correct the errors later, but the data feed does not process until you make corrections.

Running a data feed

You can set up data feeds to run automatically at regular intervals. This reduces the time and effort required to import data from an external file.

You can initiate data feeds at various times and configure them to run in regular increments for an indefinite period of time.

You can run the data feed immediately.

To prevent excess server load, schedule data feeds on a staggered basis. You can schedule a maximum of 10 data feeds to run at a time. If more than 10 data feeds are scheduled, each remaining data feed runs as the previous one completes.

Setting up a reference data feed

A reference feed allows you to specify another feed. This indicates to the Data Feed Service that this feed will start running as soon as the referenced feed completes successfully.

1. Go to the Run Configuration tab > Schedule section.

2. Do one of the following to schedule your data feed.

   • Run on Schedule: You can configure your data feed to run on a defined schedule.

   • Run After: The Data Feed Services starts the current data feed after the referenced data feed completes successfully.

   • Run Now.

3. To save the data feed, click Save or Save and Close.
