Creating & Managing Widgets

Widgets are containers for information that you want to present to your users in a dashboard.

Creating widgets

Widgets can either be single or multiple chart widgets.

Creating a Links widget

A Links widget allows you to create links to web sites, intranet sites, reports, and frequently used Archer pages.

Task 1: Create a Links widget

On the left panel, go to Widgets > Non-Report > Add New > Links. Drag the links widget onto your dashboard.

Task 2: Edit Links widget properties

  1. On the right panel, go to Properties > General.

  2. Enter a name for your links widget.

  3. (Optional) Enter a description for this widget.

  4. (Optional) In the Widgets section, select a variation. The options available are Simple List and Descriptive Links.

  5. In the Widgets section, go to Links > Add Link.

  6. Enter a name for the link.

  7. (Optional) Enter a description for the link.

  8. Select the link Type.

    • If you selected an Internal Page Type:

      1. Select an Internal Link from the dropdown list.

      2. (Optional) Choose a primary graphic for your link.

      3. Click Add.

      Note: Note: Internal Link type does not support link to content record.

    • If you selected a Report Type:

      1. Select a Report from the dropdown list.

      2. (Optional) Choose a primary graphic for your link.

      3. Click Add.

    • If you selected a Dashboard Type:

      1. Select a dashboard from the dropdown list.

      2. (Optional) Choose a primary graphic for your link.

      3. Click Add.

    • If you selected an External Link Type:

      1. Select the internet protocol, http or https, from the dropdown list.

      2. Enter an External Link.

      3. (Optional) Choose a primary graphic for your link.

      4. Click Add.

  9. Click Save.

  10. To add more links to this widget, repeat Task 2 steps 5 - 9.

    Links widget can hold a maximum of 8 links within them.

Creating a Landing Page widget

A Landing Page widget is used to create and view links with a background image of your choice on the dashboard.

Task 1: Create a Landing Page widget

On the left panel, go to Widgets > Non-Report > Add New > Landing Page. Drag the Landing Page widget onto your dashboard.

Task 2: Edit Landing Page widget properties

  1. On the right panel, go to Properties > General.

  2. Enter a name for your landing page widget.

  3. (Optional) Enter a description for this widget.

  4. In the Widgets section, go to Links > Add Link.

  5. Enter a name for the link.

  6. (Optional) Enter a description for the link.

  7. Select the link Type.

    • If you selected an Internal Page Type:

      1. Select an Internal Link from the dropdown list.

      2. (Optional) Choose a primary graphic for your link.

      3. Click Add.

      Note: Note: Internal Link type does not support link to content record.

    • If you selected a Report Type:

      1. Select a Report from the dropdown list.

      2. (Optional) Choose a primary graphic for your link.

      3. Click Add.

    • If you selected a Dashboard Type:

      1. Select a dashboard from the dropdown list.

      2. (Optional) Choose a primary graphic for your link.

      3. Click Add.

    • If you selected an External Link Type:

      1. Select the internet protocol, http or https, from the dropdown list.

      2. Enter an External Link.

      3. (Optional) Choose a primary graphic for your link.

      4. Click Add.

  8. To add more links to this widget, repeat Task 2 steps 4 - 7.

    Landing Page widget can hold a maximum of 8 links within them.

  9. In the Widgets section, go to Background Image > Add Image.

  10. Click Add Image.

  11. Choose a background image for your Landing Page widget, click OK.

  12. Click Save.

Creating a Dashboard Summary widget

A Dashboard Summary widget is used to add a brief overview of the dashboard.

Task 1: Create a Dashboard Summary widget

On the left panel, go to Widgets > Non-Report > Add New > Dashboard Summary. Drag the Dashboard Summary widget onto your dashboard.

Task 2: Edit Dashboard Summary widget properties

  1. On the right panel, go to Properties > Widgets.

  2. Enter a name for your dashboard summary widget.

  3. Enter a Summary for this widget with a maximum of 1000 characters.

  4. Click Save.

Creating a Section Divider widget

A section divider widget is used to organize the widgets into different sections on a dashboard.

Task 1: Create a Section Divider widget

On the left panel, go to Widgets > Non-Report > Add New > Section Divider. Drag the Section Divider widget onto your dashboard.

Task 2: Edit Section Divider widget properties

  1. On the right panel, go to Properties > Widgets.

  2. Enter a name for your section divider widget.

  3. Click Save.

Creating multiple chart widgets

You can add multiple chart widgets to your dashboard by stacking individual widgets on top of each other. Each multiple chart widget can hold up to 15 reports or charts. To switch between these reports or charts, use dropdown menu.

Managing Widgets

You can edit, remove, and delete widgets from a dashboard.

Edit widget properties

  1. Select a widget.

  2. On the right panel, go to Properties > Widgets.

  3. Edit the name of this widget if necessary.

    Note: The name of the widget is specific to the dashboard and does not affect the name of the report.

  4. (Optional) In the Reports section, select a variation and choose colors from the predefined color palettes.

  5. Click Save.

Note: Any changes to the report properties results in an update to the report. This change is visible wherever the report is used.

Note: To edit properties of a multiple chart widget, edit the properties of individual reports separately. Select each report using the drop-down on the multiple chart widget, edit the report properties in the right panel, and save the changes.

Edit a Links widget

Update links in a Links widget

  1. Select the links widget.

  2. On the right panel, go to Properties > General.

  3. (Optional) Edit the name and description of this widget as required.

  4. In the Widgets section, edit the variation and links as required.

    All the links in the selected widget are displayed.

  5. Click Ellipsis > Edit, next to the link you want to update and make the necessary changes.

  6. Click Update, and click Save.

Reorder links in a Links widget

  1. Select the links widget.

  2. On the right panel, go to Properties > Widgets > Links.

  3. Hover over the link you want to reorder.

  4. Click Reorder, and drag the link to the desired location.

  5. Click Save.

Delete links from a Links widget

  1. Select the links widget.

  2. On the right panel, go to Properties > Widgets > Links.

    All the links in the selected widget are displayed.

  3. Click Ellipsis > Delete, next to the link you want to delete from the links widget.

  4. Click Save.

Edit a Landing Page widget

  1. Select the landing page widget.

  2. On the right panel, go to Properties > General.

  3. (Optional) Edit the name and description of this widget as required.

  4. In the Widgets section, go to Links.

  5. Add, update, reorder, or delete the links as required.

  6. In the Widgets section, go to Background Image.

  7. Make changes to the image as required.

  8. Click Save.

Remove reports from multiple chart widgets

  1. Select a multiple chart widget on the dashboard.

  2. On the right panel, go to Properties > Reports.

  3. Hover on the report you want to remove, and click Remove.

  4. Click Save.

Remove widgets or multiple chart widgets from a dashboard

  1. Select a widget or a multiple chart widget on the dashboard, and click Remove.

  2. Click Save.

Delete widgets from a dashboard

  1. Select a multiple chart widget on the dashboard.

  2. On the right panel, go to Properties, and scroll down to the bottom of the panel.

  3. Click Delete Widget. A message is displayed asking you to confirm the deletion.

  4. Click Delete, and click Save.
